Dr. Kovacs is Professor of Pediatrics and Pathology Director of Maternal, Child and Adolescent/Adult center for Infectious Diseases and Virology (MCA), and Division Head of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. She is an internationally recognized expert in pathogenesis transmission treatment of HIV ans associated co-infections and prevention of mother-to-child transmission. She is the Principal Investigator of USC's NICHD funded International Pediatric and Perinatal HIV Studies Network (IMPAACT) and collaborated in national HIV studies including the Women's Interagency HIV Study. Her own NIH funded research focuses on pathogenesis of HIV and HCV co-infected women. She has also participated in the development of local, state, and national guidelines for prevention diagnosis and treatment of HIV in children and HIV testing in pregnant women. She directs the MCA Research Virology Laboratory which is certifies y the NIH. Her vision is to establish full spectrum family clinics in sites on all continents.
