INTD 500: Responsible Conduct of Research

The Keck School of Medicine of USC is pleased to again offer INTD 500: Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR). This one-week course satisfies NIH RCR training requirements and is open to all staff, postdoctoral fellows, masters and graduate students conducting research. All PIBBS graduate students must complete and pass INTD 500 prior to advancing to candidacy. Postdoctoral fellows and masters students auditing the course will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course.

The course will be offered on 5 consecutive days, Monday through Friday, from 9-11 AM during the week of June 17th-June 21st (Session # 40680) and will be repeated during the week of June 24th- 28th (Session # 40690). Both sessions will be held in McKibben 156 (MCH 156).Lecture and discussion topics include: scientific integrity, misconduct and fraud in science, data acquisition and management, collaborative research, responsible authorship, conflicts of interest, innovation advancement and patents, animal welfare, human subjects, mentor/mentee responsibilities and professionalism in scientific relationships. Dr. Donna Spruijt-Metz, Associate Professor in Preventive Medicine, is the course director. Faculty from the Departments of Preventive Medicine, Cell and Neurobiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Physiology and other departments will serve as Discussion leaders.
